MCR Engineer
An exciting opportunity for an experienced MCR Engineer to work in BT Sport’s award-winning broadcast facility.

About Us

Timeline Television's facility at BT Sport, Stratford, includes four HD broadcast studios, 1 UHD and 9 HD galleries, a large post-production village, multi-channel MCR and playout operation.

About the Role

In this role you will you will be responsible for the integrity, and processing, of all incoming and outgoing feeds in a very busy environment, operation and first line support of MCR and Central Apparatus Room, and, when required, for the production control rooms and associated production areas.


You will work at the highest levels of technical complexity under programme and/or operational pressures.


The engineer may from time to time be required to work at other Timeline locations, such as various venues in the Olympic Park and BT Tower.


Main Duties:

  • Line-up of video circuits, satellite links, return circuits and communications from outside broadcasts
  • Ensuring that all feeds are correctly on passed to the transmission partners according to the transmission schedule
  • Managing the inbuilt system redundancy to ensure that minimum disruption to services is caused by equipment failures
  • Logging all issues and ensuring that any equipment faults are reported to the Broadcast Engineering team, working with them to ensure that all faults are rectified.


About You

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Video matrix control systems (ideally BNCS)
  • Multi-channel audio including Dolby E and Dolby Atmos
  • Communication matrix operations
  • Management of video contribution circuits (facility lines, MPLS)
  • UHD and HD SDI circuits. Standards conversion and fault finding
  • Satellite downlinking and decryption / decoding
  • ASI transport stream processing and fault finding
  • File based ingest and playout
  • IT and TCP/IP networking infrastructure
  • ISDN, Comrex and TBUs
  • The ability to make critical assessment of television pictures and waveforms
  • Familiarity with scheduling systems used in an MCR environment
  • Customer awareness and good interpersonal skills; able to react tactfully and sympathetically to requests from operators and production staff
  • Understanding of SLAs and their impact on the business
  • The ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
