Position Summary:
Working to tight deadlines in the busy Post Production Services department, this role supervises a team of Editors (Avid Online) and GFX specialists supporting the in-house post production facilities. The Technical Operations Supervisor is a liaison between internal and wider business clients and stakeholders. 

The position requires solid technical understanding of the Avid editing platform and supporting infrastructure, including Grading (Symphony and Baselight), GFX, and audio (Protools). The candidate should preferably have hands on editing experience. 

Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential. 

The role has a strong focus on technical workflows and the ability to trouble shoot client workflows from production through to the post production phase, as well as define new workflow methodologies that drive further or new efficiencies within standard workflows.

The Technical Operation Supervisor will work closely with clients to ensure production media file formats are compliant within the Post and Broadcast environment. You will assist on special projects that fall outside standard workflows and that require additional support and supervision. You will also work closely with Post Engineering on technical projects and department requirements.

The Technical Operation Supervisor manages the induction and training needs for all new and existing edit, audio and GFX staff. The role also supports the technical development of the facility, playing a key part in defining new workflows and best practices and planning for the future needs of the business.

Working closely with the edit team the Technical Operations Supervisor will maintain high performance and productivity levels and define monthly and annual performance targets.

The Technical Operations Supervisor will collaboratively work with the entire post team to promote the post facility and the services we provide to our customers to best effect; by maintaining branded show reels, assist and participate in client tours and assist in the overall positive image of the department. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Post Production Senior Manager to manage existing internal workload and create further opportunities to increase post production services and utilisation from the business and wider businesses.
  • Technical lead for projects requiring special production and post production workflow considerations and working collaboratively with Post Engineering.
  • Lead and develop a team of staff editors and freelance editors.
  • Day to day operational support and troubleshooting for freelance editors and audio engineers. 
  • Maintaining and creating SOPs for edit staff and management including induction and training collateral and FAQs.
  • Quality assurance of output from Edit suites both technically and editorially.
  • Run monthly performance reports for the team and the individuals.
  • Supports technical development of edit facilities.
  • Ensuring all edit workflow and operational procedures are followed.
  • Report on efficiency of edit jobs and highlight opportunities for improvements to edit workflow.
  • Provide support stakeholders and clients and act as contact for operational and technical issues.
  • Provide technical lead and point of contact; assist clients and editors working on special projects outside of standard workflows.
  • Assisting with media management of Edit servers.
  • Report on any faulty equipment or operational challenges within the suites. 
  • Liaise between internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Chair internal team meetings and one to one direct report meetings.
  • Work with Bookings Supervisor and Senior Manager to source and recruit new talent and maintain relationships with external agencies or freelancers.
  • Supervise and liaise with wider post team to maintain and increase awareness of the post production facilities, internal communications and announcements, updating showreels as required.
  • Be commercially minded in your approach.
  • Strive for excellent client service in all interactions with internal stakeholder clients.

About You
Key Requirements: 
  • Extensive editing experience (Avid) within a post production environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Post Production technologies and standards, file formats, codecs, encoding software, formats conversions.
  • Proficient with Adobe CC Suite and primarily with After Effects CC, Media Encoder, Avid Symphony, and familiarity / experience of Baselight.
  • Ability to take briefs and work effectively with complex client requirements.
  • A commercial mindset with excellent client facing communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of file based workflows.
  • Proven track record in commercial post technical operations, or broadcast operations.
  • ScheduAll booking system experience, or experience of similar bookings management and scheduling systems.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to prioritise in a time pressured environment.
  • Flexible with the and ability to adapt to different demands.
  • Strong IT skills.
