Front-End System Workflow Operator

THE ROLE
Reports to: Front-End Technical Support Manager

Works closely with the Pulse (Technicolor in-house automated VFX Pulls System), Feature, Broadcast and Dailies Operations.

Positioning of Role: 
The role is dedicated to supporting the day to day technical aspects for all Pulse projects, both broadcast and features. 

Primarily focused around metadata management, media wrangling, colour pipeline and deliverables encoding. the operator will work with Pulse team members on tasks for a variety of concurrent projects. 

The operator will have a working understanding of the on-set dailies process, including knowledge of the latest camera file formats and ideally. Knowledge around the role of a DIT and VFX pulls would be a plus. 

The Pulse team interact with on-set, DI, VFX and IO, effectively being the hub for a lot of projects. Understanding the colour journey from many cameras is essential. Flexibility is required on being able to operate multiple platforms and pick up knowledge where needed. 

Expectations & Responsibilities:
  • QA & wrangling metadata as and when required
  • QA colour pipeline checks for required camera formats.
  • Working with the Pulse Producer to ensure media release deadlines are met
  • Help the Pulse Producer and Manager to accurately capture and implement client setup/requirements
  • Participate in pre-production meetings, answering basic queries on workflows and assisting with pre-edit/pre-DI tests. Understand how to and competently handle source data e.g. 35mm film scans, Arri Alexa ARRIRAW, Red RAW IPP2, Sony F65/F55, Go Pro etc.
  • Supporting UK clients on Pulse Jobs 
  • Support local teams on a technical level 
  • Manual VFX Pulls where necessary
  • Using dailies software & work with colourists on colour management. 
  • Updating procedures and processes for the Pulse within the Pulse ‘knowledge’ site
  • Conduct testing on current/new features and bug fixes – Accurately capturing and reporting bugs to the Pulse development team
  • Communicate production issues to the Pulse team
  • o Chase down missing media and metadata etc.
  • Train or educate other operators where necessary.
  • Documenting procedures and processes
  • Working with DFE & I/O to create profiles for transcoding RAW rushes. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experience:
  • Good technical knowledge of Digital Dailies processing, camera formats, file containers, camera colour & gamma spaces and how metadata ALEs/CDLs/LUTs etc are carried through the pipeline.
  • Good technical knowledge of using Dailies Software (Daylight & OSD would be an advantage) 
  • Good understanding of Editorial and Conform process.
  • Good understanding of Data Management & I/O Operations including LTO formats
  • Understanding of (and interest in) ACES workflows on high end feature and broadcast projects 
  • Be able to assess the workflow of a given project and spot any issues that may arise in terms of colour management and metadata. 
  • Problem Solver / Able to troubleshoot technical issues
  • Attention to detail
  • Great communication skills
  • Terminal/UNIX level or basic coding knowledge an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of VFX Pulls an advantage
  • Able to work as part of a team and manage the priority of tasks. 
  • Experience dealing with high profile clients. 
  • A willingness to learn and stay on top of the latest technology and colour science developments.

Hours of Work: Given the involvement with the US Support and development team for Pulse and after an initial 9-6 training period, this role will require a flexible shift pattern, depending on number and location of certain projects.
